AF-008.jpgAF-008 Crozet IslandsThe Crozet Islands (French: ÃŽles Crozet; or, officially, Archipel Crozet) are a sub-antarctic archipelago of small islands in the southern Indian Ocean. The research station there is staffed by 18 to 30 people (varying by season). They perform meteorological, biological, and geological research, and maintain a seismograph and a geomagnetic observatory (IAGA code: CZT). The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization also has listening equipment on the island.

AF-009.jpgAF-009 Europa IslandEuropa Island is a 28-square-kilometre (11 sq mi) low-lying tropical atoll in the Mozambique Channel, about a third of the way from southern Madagascar to southern Mozambique. The island had never been inhabited until 1820, when the French family Rosier moved to it. The island officially became a possession of France in 1897. The island today is garrisoned by a detachment from Réunion and has a weather station and is visited by scientists.
